Driving Lessons Sheffield

The Driving Tests

In the UK, in order for learner drivers to advance to full licence holders, two tests must be passed in order to gain a full licence, and then be able to drive unsupervised. These two tests are known as the Theory Test, and the Practical Test. The best way to learn to drive is go at your pace, remember, we are all individuals who learn at different paces!

The Theory Test and Hazard Perception

  • As pedestrians, we come across road signs, see hazards ahead and assess what action we are going to take. Therefore as pedestrians, we do have skills that read the road, and try to work out what might happen next. These are valuable skills we which we can further develop.

  • When learning your Theory Test, learn by using The Highway Code. This way you gain understanding of the road rules and procedures which help when driving.

  • You should always apply what you learn from the Highway Code to driving on the road.

  • CD ROMs are available covering these important points and can be useful when assessing your performance, and to experience the Hazard Perception Test.

  • Whilst learning to drive with new star DRIVING SCHOOL, we will work together to develop your knowledge of both the road procedures, and hazard awareness, ensuring that you pass the Theory Test first time, and are able to apply what you have learnt when driving.

The Practical Test

  • When learning to drive, you will gain many transferable skills which can be used in different road situations we encounter on a daily basis.

  • It is important that you apply what you have learnt from your theory training.

  • When learning to drive, it is also important to try and think beyond the test, as that is when you will be driving unsupervised. Everyone needs to ensure that they drive safely, and consider other road users.

  • With new star DRIVING SCHOOL, we don’t seek to learn the test routes, however we will seek to familiarize ourselves with some of the local area, as local knowledge is helpful in our everyday driving.

  • Remember! You are learning to drive, NOT learning to pass a test. You must never see the test as a barrier to gaining a full driving licence but a necessary form of quality control. The instructor and pupil must always agree that the required standard has been reached in order to pass the test successfully.
